Technical System Questions
These are questions related to how the iDAM works on the backend.
Are the digital assets stored within the database?
All digital assets are stored on a file system, including the thumbnails used to generate the screen versions of the source assets.
Do I need a full license of Microsoft SQL?
No. Many users do not even need a SQL Database. You can also use an open source solution like MySQL.
Can iDAM work with and LDAP directory?
Yes. iDAM can be easily integrated with an LDAP directory or Active Directory system.
Do I need just one server for iDAM or do I need several?
iDAM can be configured to work on just one server or multiple servers. There are performance and security advantages when iDAM is configured to work with multiple servers.
How do I backup my data in the iDAM system? Are there any automated procedures?
We recommend that your IT group add the iDAM repository, databases and services to the normal backup routines within the office. You can use the standard Microsoft automated backup tools that come with the servers.
Do I need to deploy additional applications to the client computers?
There are no required applications other than the standard web browsers (see list of support browsers in the Technology Features section). We use flash for the video preview on the browser and Java 1.5 runtime for the multi-upload features.
Can iDAM be integrated with other applications within our company's office?
Yes. iDAM comes with a full set of API's that can communicate with other applications through webservices. iDAM integrates easily into products like Sharepoint or Deltek Vision system.
What is the recommended hardware configuration for the iDAM servers?
Please see the our iDAM Hardware Guide for recommendation on system configurations and performance requirements.
